Caer Aeslyn
The second war of City-state Caer Aeslyn versus the Sardak Empire
By Phillaes Posteros
Notes by: Scibor
The following shall be an independent, factual representation of the history of the war. For a more opinionated recollection of events, I suggest "The second war, why?" by Hargal Scibor
Klarmont 15: Sardak Empire invades Caer Aeslyn
After months of preparation, the Sardak invasion force strikes against the outer defenses of Caer Aeslyn. The northern defense wall is caught completely by surprise, resulting in a quick rout of General Harkon's forces. The Sardak Scalemaster Yuanor chooses to consolidate his position as opposed to pursuing, giving away the element of surprise as the retreating armies warn the rest of the city-state.
Note: This is complete horsebollocks ofcourse. Scalemaster Yuanor had no choice in staying at the northern shieldwall, since Harkon left behind several commando teams to sabotage and murder as much as they could. These would have destroyed the supply lines had they been left alive.
Felmont 2: Sardak Empire advances on Caer Aeslyn proper
Having spent the better part of two weeks on dragging his feet, Scalemaster Yuanor finally reaches the gates of Caes Aeslyn. General Harkon has had ample time to rally the defenses, and conscript auxiliaries. Relief forces from Llachlun are also on their way, proving the logistical superiority and cunning planning of the Council of Nine.
Note: Once again Posteros shows his bias in his assessment of the situation. The Sardak army reached the main gates at most a week after the initial strike. Auxiliaries were indeed drafted, but untrained peasants with pitchforks never won a war for anyone. Also, even though riders had been dispatched to Llachlun and Ferrozoica, confirmation or denial of relief forces would have been unknown yet at this time, and would be ultimately declined altogether in the case of Ferrozoica.
Felmont 12: Sardak forces defeated by tactically brilliant General Harkon
With the aid of the dwarven relief force from Llachlun, General Harkon breaks the siege of Caer Aeslyn in a night-time counterattack on the Sardak encampment. Scalemaster Yuanor is killed in a personal dual with Harkon, resulting in a total rout of the invading forces. Caer Aeslyn victor!
Note: There was never any duel. Yuanor was killed by a small team of assassins, while the encampment was distracted by a raid on the mount picket. The ensuing in-fighting amongst the remaining staff of the Sardak army resulted in a mini-civil war for the Sardak Empire, since a large part of their nobility was involved, each with their own personal part of the army. This would prove very important in the resulting counter invasion by General Harkon.
Fyrmong 1: Caer Aeslyn forces march on Stygus
General Harkon assembles the armies, and follows the same route north that the Sardak Empire used to attack Caer Aeslyn. The first city encountered is Stygus, which is promptly put under siege.
Note: The first time Posteros is factually correct, hallelujah!
Fyrmong 9: Stygus sacked and Razed
Harkon shows his brilliance once more, and after a short siege overwhelms the defenders of Stygus. The Sardak Empire is taught a valuable lesson in warfare, and never to try and invade Caer Aeslyn again.
Note: The siege was short since there were hardly any defenders. High-priest Kosai Kar had led his forces against a rival on another unknown Sardak Temple, as a result of the civil war resulting from the death of Scalemaster Yuanor.
